Why I travel? My personal experience

Ok, at first I hesitated a lot before writing this, I didn’t want to write a generic blog post about how awesome traveling is like many other articles online, I wanted it to be very personal and wanted to share my own travel experience and how traveling changed my life.

So, In my own country, Egypt, since thousands of years we Egyptians didn’t have the culture of traveling, we are so attached to our land and the Nile, getting out of the country used to be a very scary thought to everyone.

Few years ago I used to be that guy who is not social, doesn’t have many friends, the type of guy who is always wanted to play it safe, whose life became very boring, I used to be so pessimistic, and my life problems looked unsolvable.

Then, I decided to travel and my life turned upside down! Here is how 🙂

1- Traveling makes you realize how tiny your problems are

When you travel not only you will understand how small are your problems comparing to the world, but also it could help you find a solution.

Meeting new people listening to their stories or discovering new cultures can inspire you and make you realize that life is simpler than what you think and the solution might be in front of you all the time, or more over it can inspire you to change your path completely and chase different opportunities and dreams.

2- You will be amazed that you already have more than what you need

Even though my income was doubled many times throughout my career, I was always that guy who always has no money by the end of each month, I felt always that I need more money to be able to survive.

After I started traveling I became a pro in managing my money, I’m always saving for my next trip,  searching for cheap flights or staying in hostels instead of hotels to save more money to be able to travel more, after awhile this made me realize that a lot of stuff that consume a huge amount of money can be skipped and you wont feel any difference, and by time I became less materialistic appreciating experiences over physical stuff, and can survive with any amount of money.

Now when I get my salary, I don’t know what to do with it 😀

3- You will discover that you can do things you’ve never thought you can do

In my entire life I didn’t try to take a photo, I always had this thought in my mind that I can’t take a good photo.

After traveling became my passion I started to take photos for just documenting my memories and share with friends the places I visit, I started to post those photos on my Instagram account and I was amazed by the feedback I got, and some of my photos got featured.

I know I’m still an amateur photographer and there is still a lot to learn, but the idea itself made me really happy 🙂

4- You will appreciate being alone and enjoy it

Being alone always scared the shit out of me, I couldn’t enjoy anything or feel happy by myself, traveling solo made me realize that being by myself is enough to be happy, walking in the streets of a new city by myself and nobody knows me and just enjoying the view and being flexible doing whatever I want became addictive. 🙂

I love people and I enjoy meeting new friends but if it happened and I ended up alone in any situation I wont be sad at all.

5- You will also be social and make ton of friends

It always felt awkward to me meeting new people specially when I’m alone and there is nobody I know, whenever I was in such situation I used to feel uncomfortable and stressed, then I end up sitting in the corner alone not talking to anybody.

After I started traveling I found myself many times surrounded by new people in a hostel or a walking tour, everyone is open, talking about themselves and interested to hear your story , bit by bit I realized it’s not so bad to open up and talk.

Now, starting a conversation with a total  stranger and making new friends became a hobby to me.
